Small batch wines made with love in the Alpine Valleys, Victoria.

Nacre, also known as mother of pearl, is a natural wonder that captivates us with extreme beauty and timeless elegance. Historically associated with purity nacre is revered for it luminous iridescence, pearlescent luster and remarkable durability.

Nacre - an ode to the favourite women in my life. Margaret (meaning pearl) is a family name and there is a Margaret in each generation as far back as my great great great Grandmother. My Nan was Margaret, my Mum is Marion, a diminutive form of Margaret and my Aunt is Margaret Anne. Meg is also a diminutive form of Margaret.

Owner and winemaker - Meg Wallace, her partner Simon and sons Gabriel and Jude.

Meg Wallace

Meg Wallace is the owner and winemaker of Alpine Valleys based Nacre Wine. She gained experience across several wineries in NSW while completing her winemaking degree at CSU before landing in her most recent role as winemaker at North East Vintners aka Billly Button Wines in the Alpine Valleys where she has worked since 2019.

Meg’s love of the Alpine Valleys was well and truly cemented after her first harvest in the region in 2019.

Nacre Wine is Meg’s passion project and has been a bit of a slow burn, with a focus on quality over quantity - making a couple of wines each year since 2021. Winemaking is small batch and of a classic mould, expressing variety, site, and season.

“Starting a new business has had it’s ups and downs. It is a thrilling journey filled with passion and countless challenges. When I had my first son at the end of 2020 I really had to hit the breaks. Working part time and starting a new business while caring for young children has been my greatest accomplishment (albeit a slow, slow burn….) I’m so excited to finally be getting out and about with these wines.” Meg Wallace - Nacre Wine
